The best Punjabi food in Bombay!! Choley bhaturey (king sized) and Amritsari Kulchey/Naan!

After spending almost 2 years in Bombay, my craving for a good amritsari kulcha was never satisfied. I made it a point to always have an amritsari kulcha for breakfast/lunch whenever I used to visit Delhi.

Chawla’s Dhaba came to my rescue to satisfy my Amritsari Kulchey cravings. It’s a small shop tucked away in the Punjabi area in Sion. Ask anyone in that area and they would point you out to this small eatery. The eatery scores a zero on ambience and cleanliness but scored full marks when it comes to food.

There are hardly 3-4 benches when it comes to the seating area. The kitchen is outside in the open with a hot tandoor and a big kadhai with hot oil to deep fry the bhaturas. You can also order lassi and chaach.

I ordered their mixed vegetable kulcha which came in no time. There is onion and a green chutney served along with the choley and the kulcha. The waiter and the cook were surprised when I told them no butter. Punjabis usually take offence to this 🙂

The kulcha was thin and well stuffed. It was baked to perfection and tasted really well with the spicy choley. Onions and the green chutney made me feel like I was having this meal in Delhi!! The lassi was a little sweet and to my surprise was served in a mug!

They also serve huge sized bhatureys for which I had no courage to try. There is a big thaal of choley outside which spreads the wonderful smell in the vicinity.

In all do try this joint if you love Punjabi choley, kulchey and bhaturey. Don’t judge the place by it’s ambience. It is a must try for every North Indian food lover. I am going again for sure and hope to see you there too. It’s a very pocket friendly place.
